Yummy Chicken Bake (and a bit more of the jumper)

Whoops!  Two weeks on the trot I am showing you a baked chicken dish.  I will endeavour to try out something a bit different next week, but I can't really apologise for sharing this one, as it's delicious (and also VERY easy).  One of Miss U-t-B's friends was here for this, and she had seconds, then thirds!

Start with a couple of onions

Chop and fry in a little oil

Chop 4 celery sticks
(Professed celery haters like this dish in spite of the inclusion of these!)

Chop a green pepper and add to the pile

Shred 6 cooked chicken breasts
(I used fewer, and once again, leftovers would work)

Mix 2 small cartons of natural yogurt
(I only had a large one, so I used half) and 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise

Stir the cooked onion, the raw vegetables and the chicken into the sauce and place in an ovenproof dish

Top with 6oz/150g of grated cheddar

And sprinkle with a large packet of plain crisps which you've crushed lightly

Bake for 40 minutes at 180 degrees/160 Fan oven/Gas Mark 4

And the result?

Well...

This!

PS Served with boiled rice and green salad

Back to the jumper (see yesterday's post).

It was like a scene from one of my favourite childhood stories in my sewing room late last Saturday night (only without anyone spying on me, or a little pointy hat).

Maybe you recall this book...

Photo from Arran Alexander - source of many vintage Ladybird books

Filled with enthusiasm for both my 'Pin to Reality' idea and the task of recycling that pretty Primark jumper, I set to with scissors and needle once more.  This time the inspirational photo was this one...

Heather Bailey's 'Bitty Booties' (which is a trademark, one I'll warrant will make fans of 'Little Britain' chortle somewhat...)

I downloaded the pattern (you can get it here), printed it off and snipped away, using one of the sleeves from the jumper.

A bit of blanket stitching later, this is what I had before me...

Snuggly cosy cuteness!
Baby Dylan was over for a while on Sunday so I had to slip them on him to check the size (which professes to be 3-6 months).  He didn't seem to mind the roses! (But he was in a very cheery, smiley mood so maybe he was just humouring me...)

Completing the bootees as the clock chimed one, I headed to bed and lay wondering how many different items I could squeeze out of the one jumper.  I came up with the number ten, as a bit of a challenge to myself.  Keep reading this week if you want to see if I managed!

(Oh! It's 'Blogtober'.  Frustrated not to be able to join in with 'Stoptober' - even though the ad says 'anyone can join in' - I will try and do the daily post thingy instead.  I like a bit of joining in  now and then...)

  2. Oh adorable booties ! I see more recipes using mayo these days. I used to make a cheesy tuna, egg & sweetcorn recipe my friend at college made - it had crisps all over the top & very yummy !

  3. Am definitely going to try the chicken dish Alix, but will have to tweak it a little to suit my Weight Watcher requirements! Thinking 0% Greek Yoghurt and lightest Mayo ...

Love the bootees, they're absolutely gorgeous and look like you paid a fortune for them at a specialist baby boutique ... adorable!

  10. Mmmmm, the chicken dish looks a winner - definitely one to try on my darlings.

I had to pause to savour the image of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' Ladybird book - such a blast from my childhood, I can almost smell and feel the book now. And I loved the story too. The little bootees you made are simply gorgeous. You really are rather clever with a needle, Alix!

  12. Love your booties. Can you imagine the price in a desgner children's boutique? And they wouldn't be half as well made. All these wonderful creations from one cast-off jumper but it needed a big dollop of your creativity. Carol xx
